"The beer that has survived Prohibition and the imprisonment of three previous owners, that has labored under the misconception that it is exempt from paying its water and sewer bills, is about to become the ward of a new proprietor. Like the brewery's previous fiduciaries, its new owner will, no doubt, swear allegiance to the concept of restoring the golden lager to its rightful place in the pantheon of premium brews."and Brookston

'Les Caves', Block 15's new European-inspired Bier Cafe
Owned and founded by Block 15, Les Caves is going to be a separate space and business adjacent to the brewery on 3rd Street in downtown Corvallis. Les Caves is modeled as a European Bier Cafe and will share the same community and environmental commitments as Block 15. It will have Belgian, British, and German influences, both in design and the menu. Block 15 will brew two exclusive taps for the bar: Caves IPA and Caves Saison, a seasonally evolving farmhouse inspired ale. The other 14 taps will rotate with what are considered to be fine examples of beer from local breweries and around the world. The cafe will also serve over 100 bottles of fine beers, stored and served at the correct temperature and presented in the appropriate glassware. Additionally, the space will offer vintage and rare beers. Owner Nick Arzner began collecting kegs and bottles a couple years ago for the project, and will use his brewing connections to procure limited releases. The bottle menu will include sold out releases from Block 15 and, in the future, exclusive bottling for the cafe.

Redhook Wit is perfect for the warm summer months of outdoor BBQ-ing, sitting by the pool, or just taking a break by hanging inside enjoying the AC and watching old re-runs of Gilligan’s Island. Special Easter edition of Brewing up Cocktails with Oakshire
For the fourth edition of Brewing up Cocktails, an event series that explores the interplay of beer and spirits to create new drinks, writers and mixologists Ezra Johnson-Greenough and Jacob Grier have taken on yet another challenging theme. This time they’re focusing on the 'Flip' class of drinks that uses whole eggs, and will be partnering with Eugene-based Oakshire Brewing. Oakshire will be providing the beers, as well as farm fresh eggs from the brewery’s own chickens. Join them on a beery Easter egg hunt on April 24 at Spints Alehouse.
Flips are a class of mixed drinks that use raw eggs to create a rich and creamy texture. What many do not know about flips is that their origins are as a beer cocktail. According to the Oxford English Dictionary, sailors first used the term as far back as 1695 to describe a mixture of beer, rum, and sugar heated with a hot iron poker. The first official record of the modern day interpretation of flips was in Jerry Thomas's 1862 How to Mix Drinks; or, The Bon-Vivant's Companion. In this book Thomas states that:

"The essential in flips of all sorts is to produce the smoothness by repeated pouring back and forward between two vessels and beating up the eggs well in the first instance the sweetening and spices according to taste."While modern day flips have fallen out of popularity and current definitions of what constitutes a flip vary to sometimes include cream, nog, egg whites, etc., for the purposes of defining the class of drinks and bringing it back to historical roots this chapter of Brewing up Cocktails shall use only whole eggs (including the yolk), along with beer and spirits to help bring along the flip's much overdue comeback.
Bushwhacker's Basque and Asturias Cider Tasting on Thursday
This Thursday Bushwhacker Cidery and Cider Taphouse is putting together a special sampling of rare Basque and Asturias ciders from regions in Northern Spain. The flavors in these types of ciders are impossible to find in any other kinds of offerings. Ninkasi Brewing brand manager and Cider expert Morgan Miller describes Basque as "still, very dry, with a delicate apple aroma. In flavor they fall somewhere between a traditional English farmhouse cider and the best English and North American 'commercial' ciders."
In addition to the cider, they will also have special guests from Viridian Farms, a Willamette Valley farm growing European produce, specializing in the produce of Basque country. Their produce can be found at many high end restaurants, and also Pastaworks. They will be bringing tales of a recent trip to Spain, as well as sharing Basque cheese and walnuts, a traditional Basque dessert.
Pouring will be Bonnie from Domaine Selections, Holly from DeMaison importers, and Bushwhacker owner Jeff Smith. Enjoy traditional and modern music from the region, while you watch the experts demonstrate the correct way to pour these ciders. This is a rare opportunity to try some of these amazing ciders.

Breakside Brewery's Upcoming Experimental Releases
Each Wednesday North Portland's Breakside Brewery releases special one-off and experimental beers at its brewpub at 3pm. Most of these only last one maybe two days on tap.
April 6 - Extra Light English Pale A true bitter, brewed to a whopping 3.9% ABV and loaded with hop character. Sometimes experimental brewing means packing as much flavor as you can into a very light beer.
April 13 - Night of the Dry Hops! In the spirit of the popular Night of the Smoked Porters, Breakside has brewed five test batches of its summer pale ale, each dry hopped with a different, less common American hop varietal. No Simcoe, Amarillo, or Citra here! The featured hops are Newport, Vanguard, Ahtanum, Santiam, and Galena. The beers will be served side by side in a sampler tray, and customers will have the chance to vote on a People’s Choice Hop. The winning hop will then be featured in the larger batch of the brewery’s summer pale ale.
April 20 - Lober Agol An heirloom English style also known as Devon white ale, this wheaten brew is fermented with brewer’s yeast as well as flour, baker’s yeast, and egg whites.
April 27 - Bramble A barrel-aged Belgian brown ale housed in an Old Tom Gin barrel with blackberries, lemon peel and juniper berry. The latest in the brewery’s series of cocktail beers.
Upcoming Seasonal Beers
This April, Breakside will release four new seasonal beers. Tapped today (April 5) will be the Double Dry Hop Blonde, a 9% strong golden ale brewed in the spirit of English blonde barleywines and Belgian hoppy blondes. Also released today is the IPA Jr., an experiment from the brewery in which the regular IPA recipe was brewed down to pale ale strength, while also featuring different aroma hops. Later in the month, expect to see a Rye Kolsch as well as a wheat pale ale called Amarillo Wheat, brewed in collaboration with homebrewer Ritch Marvin. Breakside’s seasonal beers have been moving fast—these batches tend to last only about ten days, so get them while they’re here!
