This week both APEX and Pelican Pub & Brewery celebrate anniversaries, Breakside continues their Cocktail Beers series, and Saraveza hosts a Beer & Cheese pairing on Sunday. But to begin, highly anticipated new beer bar Bazi Bierbrasserie inches closer to opening.

Bazi Bierbrasserie Now Hiring!
My new friends Hilda and Eric from the previously reported Belgian/European inspired new beer bar Bazi Bierbrasserie are on track for a late May opening off of SE Hawthorne Blvd. on 32nd. They have just put up an ad on Craigslist looking for Cooks and Waitstaff:
Bazi Bierbrasserie is now hiring! We're looking for energetic and passionate individuals who thrive on providing superior customer service. Server and line cook positions are available for both day and night shifts ranging from Part-Time to Full-Time.

Our hours of operation will be Sun-Thurs 11am-11 pm and Fri-Sat 11am-1am. Estimated opening date is May 24. We expect our customers to have a passion for Belgium beer, European cuisine, and soccer (we will be televising the Timber games).

If you share the same interests, please email your resume to bazibierbrasserie@gmail.com with minimum of 3 references. Indicate in the subject line whether you are interested in a server or line cook position and whether part-time or full-time applicant. APEX Celebrates 1 Year Anniversary this Saturday
My homeboy and Owner of APEX Jesse McCann has been saving rare beers all year and will be tapping them on Saturday, May 7th, for a celebration that lasts from open to close (1130am to 230am). He wouldn't tell me which beers will be available, but with his connections and love of California breweries like Russian River, Pizza Port, and Bear Republic, as well as his previous history with New Belgium, I think we can dare to guess/hope about some of the offerings.
With any luck the weather will continue to be killer and everyone can enjoy the amazing patio.

Pelican’s 15th Anniversary Celebration on May 7

There will be a celebration in honor of Pelican Pub & Brewery's 15th Anniversary on Saturday, May 7, and everyone is welcome. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and events begin at 6pm There will be appetizers, live music by Matthew Price, fire dancers performing from 9 to 10pm, and Pelican award-winning beer for purchase. In addition, a nostalgic slide show will be presented and a variety of Pelican memorabilia will be on display.

Breakside's Take on a Sazerac-inspired Cocktail Beer
Today, Wednesday, May 4, will see the release of Breakside Sazerac, the latest in a line of cocktail-inspired beers modeled after the famous New Orleans drink. In this case, it is a Belgian brown ale aged in a Whippersnapper whiskey barrel with star anise, lemon peel, and Peychaud’s bitters.

I am especially interested in trying this beer, as I collaborated with Ben to create it. I'm excited to see how the flavors melded in the barrel, especially the Peychaud's Bitters, which to my knowledge have never before been used in brewing a commercial beer.

Beer & Cheesecake for Mother's Day at Saraveza
As previously mentioned in my interview with the Beer Goddess, this Sunday Lisa Morrison is teaming up with Saraveza's Sarah Pederson for a Mother's Day Beer & Cheesecake pairing. The event was originally intended for Valentine's Day, but got postponed after Don Youngers passing. I know there are going to be some incredible pairings at this event, and I can't think of a better way to spend Mother's Day. This event takes place at Saraveza's new backspace located around the corner at 5433 N Michigan Ave
