Pliny the Younger in Portland! Commence Freaking Out!!!

Photo from The Hop Press
To my mind the most overhyped beer ever, Russian River's Pliny the Younger was released again recently to longer lines than ever before, even making the local news. Always the first to tap the keg in Portland, it seems Higgins Restaurant in downtown Portland has done it again and will be tapping its super fresh keg of the Younger tomorrow, Wednesday, February 8th, at about 4pm. Higgins reports it only took 47 minutes for the keg to blow last year, so get there quick. Higgins will also have Pliny the Elder and Blind Pig on tap to satiate you in case you miss the precious Younger.

  1. I find it curious how you describe and despise (in your linked article from two years ago) the insanity that ensues when Younger tappings are highly publicized - even to the point of yourself being in physical danger - and yet you are likely creating just that scenario at Higgins today with this post and your twitter updates. The keg kicked last year in 47 minutes with almost no fanfare or posts on major blogs about it. The first rule of FIght Club...

  2. I don't get it either. It isn't that great of a beer. It's not bad, but I have had it a few times and it really didn't excite me much. I much prefer the Elder (which is even overhyped --I did a IIPA blind tasting a while back and it didn't even make my top 5).

  3. What purpose other than driving traffic to your site does this post have? You write a previous article mentioning your disdain for the hype around this beer, then you go an hype it yourself with this post. I don't understand why you would do this unless it is to get more hits on your blog.

  5. Caveman Lawyer, specifically this post serves to inform people about a new tapping that obviously many many many people are interested in. So I think that is a pretty damn good reason even if I dont like the beer for myself, you can make your own choice. Secondly of course I try to get more people coming to my site, do you try to get more clients? Thats a stupid accusation.

  6. I'm in full agreement. with the first posts. And of course you want more traffic to your site, I do not believe that was the accusation. It's the fact you're contradicting yourself to get more traffic to your site.

    1. I am not contradicting myself, I still dont believe the hype but I definitely have softened on it since I wrote that original post some time back. At that point it did piss me off based on many things that happened around that time. Now I am more amused by it than anything. Atleast Higgins is not selling tickets to it and promoting it in advance.

    2. You are indeed contradicting yourself. That's fine if you have changed your opinion on the matter since the original article. That is obviously clear, since the articles have opposing opinions, hence the contradiction. I understand that opinions can change over time, but it just looks rather unprofessional when you link these two articles together.
