Yesterday tickets went on sale for the kickoff party for the 2nd annual Portland Beer Week. The big draw might be the release of the official 2012 PDX Beer Week beer, a collaboration between two of Oregon's finest, Deschutes and Hopworks. It's a tweak/merger of classic styles: India Red Lager. Also sure to make the party a good time, there will be a brewers Pop-A-Shot tourney on Spirit of 77's custom made hoops.
India Red Lager was brewed at Deschutes' Portland Pub for limited draft and at Hopworks for very limited bottles. The beer has a classic NW hop profil,e with Amarillo, Cascade, and Simcoe hops plus an additional dry-hopping, this beer should please hopheads everywhere.

The winner of the Brewers Pop-A-Shot tourney at the kickoff party gets a tap handle at the upscale Spirit of 77 sports bar for a year. The public can fill out their own bracket, NCAA-style, and win prizes. The whole competition will be MC'd by the Beer Goddess, Lisa Morrison.
There are two options for entrance into the kickoff party, which will feature beers from Deschutes, Hopworks, Double Mountain, Laurelwood, Firestone Walker, and Widmer. One is to purchase a Portland Beer Week pint glass good for discounts at participating beer week sponsors for $5 at the door or advance purchase. Or, even better...
purchase the VIP Schwag bag, which at $25 is a steal. It includes the pint glass, but also a 22oz bottle of the Deschutes/Hopworks India Red Lager, which is extremely limited, plus a Portland Beer Week t-shirt, a copy of the latest issue of Imbibe magazine, a Spirit of 77 wristband, and a ticket for your first pint free at the bar. That's over a $40 value. The catch? There are only 100 schwag bags available, so get yours here in advance now.
Also on tap for the kickoff party are beer and food pairing dinner specials and prizes from brewers and sponsors like Google Places and Imbibe Magazine, which will be on site.

The Deschutes and Hopworks versions of the Portland Beer Week: India Red Lager are somewhat different ,as you might imagine. Hopworks used organic malts and a different lagering technique. The first tapping will be at
the kickoff party, but the only chance to taste the two versions side by side on
draft will be Belmont Station on Friday, June 8th, for the bottle release party.
