Famed homebrewer Jamil Zainasheff brings his Heretic Brewing to Portland through Running Man Distributing this May. The 4 year old brewery from Fairfield, California (in the east bay area) has won a number of awards, just like its prominent founder did in his homebrewing career before going pro.

Beginning May 26th we will be able to get Heretic Brewing’s beers in Oregon in 22oz bottles and on draft, including: 2012 GABF Gold medal winning Gramarye (rye beer), Evil Twin (Hoppy Red), Evil Cousin (Imperial IPA), Chocolate Hazelnut Porter, and Petit Rouge (Belgian Blonde with Hibiscus), with limited/seasonal releases also seeing some distribution.

“We’re excited to enter the amazing Oregon market. It is a vibrant scene filled with great breweries and passionate beer lovers. We’re honored to be one of the choices discerning beer lovers can choose from, thanks to the expertise of the people at Running Man Distributing,” said Chief Heretic Jamil Zainasheff.

The story of Jamil Zainasheff is an accomplished one. He is the host of “The Jamil Show” and “Brew Strong” on The Brewing Network. What’s more, Jamil has brewed every style of beer described in the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) Style Guidelines and contributed to the guidelines revisions of 2008. He has also co-authored two books on beer and homebrewing: “Brewing Classic Styles: 80 Winning Recipes Anyone Can Brew” (with John Palmer) and “Yeast: The Practical Guide to Beer Fermentation” (with Chris White).

When asked about what brought Jamil to homebrewing in 1999, he responded: “My neighbor Steve brought over a beer which tasted amazing, and I asked where he got it, and he said he made it. I shared this with my wife and she eventually bought me a Mr. Beer kit. My obsessive-compulsive nature made me go crazy with it. I used Mr. Beer for one batch and wanted more…I ended up brewing all the time; sometimes 5-6 times a week.”

Heretic has partnered with Running Man Distributing for the Oregon market, which looks forward to bringing Heretic’s beers to its customer base. Rob Merollis, co-founder of Running Man stated, “We value extraordinary beer, and exceptional people in brewing. Heretic Brewing is a welcomed addition to the Oregon beer scene, and will resonate with our retail partners that want distinguishing beers. In addition to the beers listed above, other specialty releases will be available in the better beer bars of Portland. Jamil will be in Portland to help kick off sales of Heretic Brewing, and will be at the following events:
