The Top Dining & Food Events of the Craft Brewers Conference

With more events in Portland next week than you can shake a can of PBR at, we have decided to break down the best Craft Brewers Conference events into categories. Today we feature the top dining and beer and food pairing events of next week, featuring Brewmaster’s dinners, prix fixe menus, and rarely seen breweries at top of the line restaurants.

Without further ado, here are more than a dozen of the best beer and food pairing events of the Craft Brewers Confecence:

The Bruery Pop-Up Beer Pairing Dinner with Coquine

Friday, April 17th 6-9PM

$75 per person (18% gratuity added for a total of $88.50).

Imperial will be closing its doors for a special three hour private event on Friday, April 17th, as they graciously host The Bruery and Coquine Supper Club for a 6-course, pop-up beer pairing dinner. 40 lucky diners will feast on a menu of rustic yet avant-garde seasonal cuisine paired with word-class beers:

1) “Jardiniere” – a new Belgian pale ale, crisp & refreshing

House made ricotta and fava bean crostini with pea blossoms and lemon

2) “Sourrento” – a limoncello-inspired sour blonde with lemon & lactose

Smoked green farro with artichokes, schmaltz, rosemary and brown butter bread crumbs

3) “Loakal” – oaked American Red Ale generally only available in Orange County

Roasted carrots with creme fraiche, oats, benne seed, aleppo pepper, and crispy pig ear

4) “Geriatric Hipster Club” – beer equivalent of an Old-Fashioned; oak, bitters, orange peel

Beef tartare with Douglas Fir and hazelnuts

5) “Tart of Darkness with Cherries & Vanilla” – sour stout aged in oak barrels with tart cherries and vanilla beans

Duck confit with cannelini beans, Amarena cherry glaze, fennel and caraway

6) “Freckle” – mole-spiced imperial stout

Carolina Gold Rice Pudding with cinnamon, vanilla, orange, and dark chocolate



A Collaborative Brewers Dinner

Breakside Brewery and Ned Ludd’s Elder Hall present a collaborative brewers dinner with some of our favorite breweries from across the country. This 5 course dinner features 10 beer pairings of epic proportions features Jester King Brewery (Austin, TX), Melvin Brewing (Jackson, WY), Crooked Stave Artisan Beer (Denver, CO), Moody Tongue Brewing (Chicago, IL), and Breakside Brewery (Portland & Milwaukie, OR).

Hosted by McMenamins Crystal Brewers Drew Phillips and Dan Black, beginning with a tour of the Crystal Brewery,  the duo will present multiple courses prepared by Chef Jordan Taylor and Sous-chef Warren Pinkston at Zeus Café paired with their specially brewed beers. It promises to be a memorable night of beer, food, and tall tales.

Oakshire Brewing and 3 Floyds are teaming up with us to host a four course tasting dinner with three beers from each brewery! OMSI + Ninkasi Space Beer Dinner

Foodies and beer lovers unite for the Portland premiere of Ninkasi’s newest creation, Ground Control, fermented with an Ale yeast that’s traveled to space! Enjoy a delicious dinner created by Bon Appetit’s Executive Chef, Ryan Morgan and hear from two Ninkasi experts, Nikos Ridge, CEO and co-founder, and Ben Prescott, a Certified Cicerone.

The evening will begin with a space science demonstration, followed by a 3-course dinner paired with delicious Ninkasi beers. The grand finale with be dessert served with the exclusive space beer, Ground Control, an Imperial Stout.

Founder of The New School and most frequent contributor Ezra Johnson-Greenough has worked in the craft beer industry for almost 10 years, doing everything from illustrating beer labels to bartending at renowned beer bars and breweries like Belmont Station, Apex, Laurelwood and Upright Brewing.
