New Seasons Markets customers choose Ultimate Oregon Craft Beer

By  |

New Seasons Markets recently held their annual Neighborhood Craft Beer Challenge, held at all 15 of their different locations in Oregon. Each market held free bottle samplings over 10 days of a selection of local craft beer and collected votes from the public on their favorite of the bunch. A winner was chosen from every spot to represent that neighborhood. After the winners had been decided, New Seasons held a final voting round on their website, open to everyone to help decide the “Ultimate Oregon Craft Beer.” Those winners by each location were:

1) Happy Valley Winner – Pelican Brewing Kiwanda Cream Ale, Pacific City

2) Hawthorne Winner – Terminal Gravity Brewing Extra Special Golden (ESG), Enterprise

3) Sellwood Winner – Occidental Brewing Co. Kolsch German Style Ale, Portland

4) Progress Ridge Winner – Mazama Brewing Belgian Style Blonde, Corvallis

5) Cedar Hills Winner – Old Town Brewing Co. Sundazed Kolsch, Portland

6) Seven Corners Winner – Ninkasi Brewing Co. Dawn of the Red IRA, Eugene

7) Grant Park Winner – Heater Allen Brewing Pils, McMinnville

8) Nyberg Rivers Winner – GoodLife Brewing Descender IPA, Bend

9) Williams Winner – Old Town Brewing Co. Sundazed Kolsch, Portland

10) Mountain Park Winner – Hop Valley Brewing 541 American Lager, Eugene

11) Orenco Station Winner – Crux Fermentation Project Impasse Saison, Bend

12) Arbor Lodge Winner – Breakside Brewery Breakside IPA, Portland

3) Concordia Winner – Logsdon Farmhouse Ales Seizoen Bretta, Hood River

14) Fisher’s Landing Winner – The Commons Brewery Urban Farmhouse Ale, Portland

15) Raleigh Hills Winner – Fort George Brewery Quick Wit, Astoria

Obviously there is not a bad beer in the bunch, but New Seasons sent me 9 of these beers hoping to get my own vote. Unfortunately I cannot choose a single favorite, it is dictated by time, place and mood but if I had to narrow it down I would give the Heater Allen Pils, Breakside IPA and Commons Urban Farmhouse the nods.

At the end of the public voting on social media, the winner was crowned as Old Town Brewing’s Sun Dazed Kolsch. A worthy winner and a great summertime beer, not a big surprise it has won but a big boost for the still relatively unknown brewery. Congrats to them, now go pick up a OTB Kolsch at any of the 15 New Seasons Markets.
