Belmont Station Kicks Off 20-day 20th Anniversary Celebration April 1st

Portland’s most influential bottleshop and perennial best in the west winner, Belmont Station, is celebrating its 20th anniversary with twenty days of events and collaboration beers starting Saturday, April 1st. The celebration actually begins at the legendary Horse Brass Pub just down the street. Belmont Station originally started in 1997 in the space next door to the pub as a retail off-shoot, and thus the celebration beginning at 11am is appropriate.

Grab a beer, a special lunch made just for Belmont Station supporters, and complimentary birthday cake at the Brass. Then join Belmont staff, including founder Joy Campbell, and current co-owners Carl Singmaster and Lisa Morrison, along with brewers, distributors and members of the Oregon Piper Society as we march four blocks north in tribute to the Station’s 2007 move to its current home at 45th and Stark Street. Enjoy a complimentary toast with the first tapping of 3-Headed Monster IPA, a collaboration between Barley Brown’s, Boneyard, and Melvin breweries.

The celebration continues that day, and daily through April 20, in both the bottle shop and taproom with several other special beers made just for Belmont Station’s anniversary. Belmont staff have collaborated with many of the best breweries, and throughout the 20 days the resulting unique beers will be released on tap in the bar and/or in one-of-a-kind bottlings available exclusively in the bottle shop.


Amongst the myriad events:

  • Mini-Puckerfest — Three days of sour and wild ales April 7 – 9 in tribute to Belmont’s annual weeklong summertime Puckerfest. Limited bottle releases from DeGarde and Ale Apothecary and unique drafts from DeGarde, Upright, Double Mountain, Block 15, and more. Plus, on April 7, participate in a special Battle of the Belmont Blends competition with Belmont staff-blended sours at Cascade Barrel House  — try both and vote for your favorite for braggin’ rights among team members.
  • “Bigger, Badder, Blacker” drafts April 14 – 16, featuring a Deschutes Black Butte Anniversary vertical tapping on the 14th, a bunch of other special one-offs or rare beers, and a host of vintage bottles moving from our cellar to our shelves for sale.
  • The “Besties” celebration April 17 brings the crews of the recent Oregon Beer Awards Small, Medium, & Large Breweries of the year (Baerlic, The Commons, and Breakside respectively) and some of their best drafts to the Best Beer Bar and Bottleshop Winner (that’s us!). Guaranteed to be the Best!


Some of the special beers are still brewing so the rest of the schedule is in flux. About Belmont Station

Belmont Station was founded in 1997 in a space adjoining the Horse Brass pub. Joy Campbell and Horse Brass owner, the late Don Younger, opened a combination craft and import beer bottle shop with a British foods and novelties store. As demand for craft beer expanded the beer and cider selection edged out the food and novelties and Belmont Station was arguably the first specialty beer store in the Northwest. In 2006 Carl Singmaster assumed majority ownership and moved the Station to its current location at 4500 SE Stark Street, both expanding the bottle selection of beer, cider, and mead and adding a taproom that now offers 23 always rotating and lovingly curated beers. With the new location the Station began hosting many more tastings and Meet the Brewer events (these weren’t very common 10 years ago!) and became the launching point for many of today’s most well-known craft brewers. In 2013 renowned Beer Goddess Lisa Morrison took over the reins and has led the Station to numerous local, national and international awards. Belmont remains independently owned by Lisa and Carl today.

Founder of The New School and most frequent contributor Ezra Johnson-Greenough has worked in the craft beer industry for almost 10 years, doing everything from illustrating beer labels to bartending at renowned beer bars and breweries like Belmont Station, Apex, Laurelwood and Upright Brewing. He has also had a hand in creating events like the Portland Fruit Beer Festival, Portland Beer Week, and the Brewing up Cocktails series.
