Terminal Gravity to Open Spinoff The East Fork Brewery

By  |

Terminal Gravity Brewing, a twenty year old Oregon institution, will expand into a second location called The East Fork Brewery in Joseph, Oregon, this fall with a pop-up pub open by late summer. Terminal Gravity has leased the defunct Mutiny Brewing, which ironically was a spinoff founded by allegedly disgruntled Terminal Gravity employees.

The East Fork Brewery will be a full brewpub with kitchen and a small four barrel brewhouse that will operate independently of the main Terminal Gravity Brewing. TG Marketing and Sales Director Kevin Harlander is one of the people overseeing the project and tells me that Terminal Gravity hopes to eventually purchase the property, but for now will operate it as a pop-up TG pub with beer from the Enterprise location. TG hopes to be brewing on-site by this fall.

Harlander tells me that The East Fork Brewery will stand alone with its own brand, and after the brewery becomes operational, “while under the Terminal Gravity Brewing umbrella, will operate independently with its own brewery and pub staff. The space will focus on the place and people of Wallowa County, a celebration of the balance between locality and visitors. We hope to focus on shareable food and beer.”

Josh Evans, a graduate of Oregon State University’s Fermentation Sciences program, will be the head brewer at The East Fork Brewery and focus on one-off and experimental beers. Most of the beer brewed at East Fork will stay in Wallowa County, with a few kegs sneaking into Portland.

Harlander adds:

“We’re excited to open another space, especially because the small system (4 bbl Elliot Bay Metal Fab.) allows our team to dive into some experimentation that isn’t always feasible over at our production facility. We hope to provide an experience that gives local residents a place they’re proud to hoist a pint, while giving visitors a chance to peek into what makes brewing in the Middle of Nowhere so special.”

While I never made it to Mutiny Brewing, the photos available online show a similarly beautiful outdoors vibe and country setting as Terminal Gravity. The pristine setting, awesome beer garden and in the middle-of-nowhere vibe look to offer  yet another hidden gem to Oregon’s eclectic brewing community.

The East Fork Brewery will be located at 600 N Main St, Joseph, OR 97846
