NW Growlers Owner Opening Trouvaille Brewing in Sherwood

By  |

Three-year-old NW Growlers in Sherwood, Oregon, has been forced to shut its doors as the building has been put up for sale by owner. However, where one door closes, another opens, as NW Growlers transitions to new project Trouvaille Brewing. NW Growlers has two locations, the first one opened in 2013 on southwest Macadam in Portland and the second location in Sherwood opened in 2014. Though the Sherwood spot has been successful, the landlord seems determined to sell the building and ended the lease, instead, the team will build a brand new brewpub from the ground up on existing open space in town.

Last Saturday, Nov. 4th was NW Growlers – Sherwood’s last day in business. Owner Johnny Morgan said, “We have built an incredible community out here and are extremely sad to have this happen. While this time is sad there is a silver lining. We’ve been working on a new plan to purchase property, here in Sherwood, and open a new space.”

Trouvaille Brewing will be built on a 1/2 acre of land at 20941 SW Olds Place Sherwood, OR 97140 and Morgan hopes all the Sherwood locations regulars will stick by them in the new adventure.

“It is completely different from NW Growlers. While we will be putting a lot of concentration into our own beer program, we will still run the taps similar to NWG. We will still offer guest taps. Let’s be honest, there are a lot of amazing breweries out there that have amazing beer and we want to support them, but Trouvaille’s taps will be rotating just as much.”

Morgan has hired a known brewer with over fourteen years experience but his identity is still remaining a secret until the right time to announce. Whoever it is will have a 15bbl new brewhouse from Practical Fusion out of Tualatin, Oregon, and Trouvaille will be just the 2nd brewery in Sherwood after Two Kilts Brewing.  What kind of beer will the brewery make? That’s also still to be determined, but Morgan promises a wide spectrum of flavor profiles.

Sherwood is a family-focused community and Morgan says he estimates 60% of his customers have kids, so you can expect Trouvaille Brewing to be kid-friendly. Not only will it have a kid play-area inside and a kids menu, but it will also have a kid-friendly outdoor area and plenty of separation between a minors area and adult area, As Morgan says “Even us parents need a bit of pure adult time every so often.”

Morgan hopes to get Trouvaille Brewing open by June, but admits it’s very dependent on how smoothly things go. Morgan adds, “Since we are doing a full restaurant, including breakfast on the weekends, there are a few more moving parts but we anticipate everything to roll out pretty smoothly with the construction team that we’ve acquired. They’re the best in the business and we’re happy to have them on our side.”

I have been following Smockville Brewhouse’s progress and looking forward to it. Does not look like they are anywhere near brewing though they may open. I havent seen them post a single photo of any sort of brewery equipment even in the building yet.
