#OCBM Picks of the Week

Oregon Craft Beer Month is just getting started. Honestly I am only excited about a few events this month. The overall calendar on the OCBM website is stuffed with a lot of filler events, but there are no doubt lots of fun things to do. It’s not really that much different then the variety of events throughout the rest of the year, but there are a good number of things condensed into one month. So I am going to do my best to filter through them and offer my Top Weekly Picks. Here are this week’s:

Fort George Tap Takeover at APEX
Wednesday July 6th 5-9pm
Fort George is awesome, APEX is awesome, and their tap takeover events are even cooler, so what more do you want? Oh, well, they will have the new Fort George 16oz cans plus tons of draft beers, and co-owner C. Nimz himself will be there. What are all the beers? Suffice it to say that there are a fuck lot of them and I am too lazy to type them all out. Details are available on the event’s Facebook page. Go to this.

Night of the Alsatian Blondes at Breakside Brewery
Wednesday July 6th http://www.breaksidebrews.com/
I heard a rumor Ben Edmunds makes good beer. It is just a rumor, though, but maybe it’s worth checking out his experimental lineup of blonde ales. Each one is fermented with Upright Brewing’s old French Saison yeast, and the four batches each have a different white wine grape added. Why? Because Ben prefers wine over beer. At least, that is the rumor.
820 NE Dekum

Mummers Habanero Ale release at Philadelphia’s
Thursday July 7th 530pm
You might be wondering why I am recommending Philadelphia’s…well, they are not that bad and they are putting forth a big push during OCBM with lots of special beer tappings, so we should all support that. Especially when they are doing some unique beers like the habanero chili beer they are releasing today.

Bend Beer Night at The Beermongers
Friday July 8th 6pm
Brewpublic puts on this night featuring all Bend brewers at The Beermongers. I would like to know more about what beers are actually going to be on tap, since all the breweries except for Bend Brewing are commonly available in Portland. Between all of these guys, I am sure it’s going to be worth a look: 10 Barrel Brewing, Bend Brewing, Boneyard Beer, Cascade Lakes Brewing, Deschutes Brewery, Silver Moon Brewing, and Three Creeks Brewing.

The Cans Fest
Saturday July 9th Noon-10pm
You probably have already read about this on The New School, but this is probably the biggest beer party of the week. It will feature all canned craft brews, many of which are not available in Oregon at all. There will also be live music, games, barbecue, and The Beer Goddess. Plus, it’s a street party and they have….can coozie wristbands!!!!!

Laurelwood Rooftop Luau and Pig Roast
Saturday July 9th 4-9
I wanted to check this out last year but did not make it for some reason. This just sounds like a fun party for all-ages unless you are vegan/vegetarian. It’s at Laurelwood’s main Sandy location on the rooftop.

Beer & Cigar Pairings at the East Burn
Sunday July 10th 5-7pm
You may have heard about this event since it is one I am producing along with 33 Beers Dave Selden and PDX Cigars. It really is a unique event and a good deal. We have figured out 3 amazing beer and cigar pairings with varied styles of beer and smokes. In addition, the evening is rounded out with 2 other glasses of beer of your choosing and 2 plates of food and a copy of Dave’s new 33 Cigars book, all while chilling on East Burn’s awesome patio. Click the PayPal link on our sidebar or reserve your spot in person at the East Burn.
