Weekend Events in Beervana

This weekend has some stellar events in Portland, starting with tonight’s Passionfruit Sour release from Breakside Brewery at Hale Pele and followed by Saraveza’s Double IIPA Fest, the Vancouver Brewfest, and my favorite Devil’s Point Bikini Car and Dog Wash!!

The weekend kicks off with a new beer from Breakside that I am particularly excited about, enough so that I have already pre-ordered a 1/6 barrel of it for home. Breakside’s Passionfruit Sour is one of my current favorite styles of beer – a Berliner-Weisse brewed with–you guessed it–passionfruit. This is a beer first created last summer by senior brewer Sam Barber, who has tweaked the recipe for greater tastiness. SNOB Ritch, who tried the beer out of the brite tank last week, says it’s the best fruit Berliner he has had. The release party is at a cool tiki bar called Hale Pele on NE Broadway, and in addition to the chance to try the beer and meet-the-brewers there will be a dinner special that includes your choice of a main course dish and 2 sides plus a beer for only $15. You can’t beat that! I think I will finish the night with a Volcano Bowl cocktail.

On to Saturday, when the Double IPA Fest returns to Saraveza. This beer geek favorite event has a packed lineup of rotating IPAs mostly from local breweries, but with a few all-star regional gems as well.A $20 entry includes commemorative glass & 10 beer tickets.

If you like Portland’s deadbeat little brother across the river, Vancouver, as well as brews and cheesy Aerosmith cover bands, then the 2nd Annual Vancouver Brewfest is just your ticket this weekend.

The 21 and over event features a unique line-up of local brewers and will be offering over 50 different beers to sample and enjoy. The festival also serves up a full line-up of bands performing on the center stage, high-end food vendors, and an assortment of crafts and other activities to add to the fun. Feel free to bring a lawn chair, some chums, and your four legged friends (dogs are welcome here). Tickets can be purchased in advance via the website or at the gate on the days of the event.

Hours will be as follows:
Friday August 9, 2013
3:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Saturday August 10, 2013
12:00 pm to 9:00 pm

Sunday August 11, 2013
12:00 pm to 7:00 pm

Last, and definitely not least, is Devil’s Point‘s annual Bikini Car & Dog Wash holding down your weekend this Sunday. There will be beer, and you can win a New Belgium cruiser bike and also this…PBR…uh, dog coat?

Also, get your car and dog washed…and that’s the only reason to go there…

Holy crap, that band lineup. Is everyone in Vancouver required to be in a tribute band? I am baffled by the existence of a tribute to Loverboy.

It is recommended to have an expert take a look at the forklift before you agree to purchase it, because the expert may be able to notice items about it that you aren’t able to. Experts always pays special attention to the mast and its current state of mobility, and the brakes.
