2013 Beer Geek Holiday Gift Guide – Part 1

Today is “Cyber Monday,” the internet’s version of the dreaded Black Friday. You won’t find (most) of these items on Amazon.com, but you may find a soft spot in a beer geek’s heart this gift giving season. We have combed the interwebs high and low (very low) for a 3-part feature on the best gifts for the beer geek, from handmade beer-themed art to the latest tech. You don’t want to miss this.

Class it up a bit with these detailed symmetrical design ties showing off the beauty of barley and hops. Pictured here are the dark beer versions ranging from gold to brown, but there are many color themes and they come in standard, narrow, or standard XL sizes. Hop Vine Women’s Shirt
This custom-made screen printed t-shirt shows off the elegant simplicity in a hop vine stretching across a form fitted dark heather v-neck. At only $20, it makes a great affordable gift for a girlfriend (we know that’s a stretch.) Only $20 each from BrewerShirts.

Beer Savers

Keep your bottled beer semi-fresh and easily identifiable with these stretchy molded bottle cap covers. Made of food-safe silicone and dishwasher safe, they make a nice stocking stuffer at $6.99 for a 6-pack of different colors.

Insulated Beer Growler Bag

So you just had your stainless steel growler counterpressure filled with Boneyard’s Hop Venom IPA. Don’t look like a tool carrying it around by the handle; take the opportunity to accessorize! Treat that growler with the respect it deserves by carefully inserting it into this handwoven and insulated canvas growler bag. Complete with an adjustable strap and a draw string, you will want to carry your growler with you everywhere as a fashion accessory. It really brings out the color in your teeth. $45 from State of Devotion.

The Sonic Foamer
Several years ago Guinness came out with a fun little gimmick called the Surger that allowed you to nitroize their beer straight from a can without a build in widget. The device supposedly mimicked the nitrogenated tap experience by sending ultrasonic waves through the beer. I worked at Belmont Station at the time and we brought one in; it was actually a lot of fun putting all sorts of beers and drinks on the surger to see what it would do to them. I recall mixing chocolate, coffee, and raspberry beers with a scoop of ice cream once. The Guinness Surger predictably disappeared and was only ever available for commercial use. Now comes The Sonic Foamer, which appears to be exactly the same technology. This is actually a fun gimmick to try on beers; it will completely change the flavor of a standard beer and creates a cool cascading head that, if you’re not careful, will gush out the glass. $39.99 each with bulk discounts available.

Mug Muscles
You know those bodybuilder muscle ads in the back of comic books that would offer to show you how to grow huge guns and 6-pack abs to impress the ladies? This is exactly like that, except you can do it while throwing back a cold one. Introducing Mug Muscles–the new beer mug to start sippin n’ rippin! According to the website, it takes just 100,000 reps to get ripped, and drinking light beer is better for cardio while dark beer is better for strength. That’s just good science, folks! $19.99 with free shipping from MugMuscles.com

Stay tuned for more gifts for the beer geek in Part 2 next week!
