2013 Beer Geek Holiday Gift Guide – Part 3

It’s time to get off your ass and get your holiday shopping done, and The New School is here to help with our 3rd and final installment of our Beer Geek Gift Guide series. (Read part 1 and part 2 here.) Full of hand made craft beer friendly gifts both useful and beautiful.

Leather Bike-Mounted Beer Growler Carrier
This is probably the coolest and most stylish beer carrier we have come upon. It’s so hip it would feel right at home next to a Gucci hand-bag. With more leather and straps and buckles than your S & M outfit, the handmade 1/8″ veg-tanned multi-colored leather will keep your beer in bondage safer than the gimp in the basement. Yet it’s still Portlandia beer geek relevant, since it’s bike mounted and keeps your growler nearby for one of the increasing number of growler fill stations. Available in black, light brown, or mahogany colors and on-sale for $65 right now.

Hops Necklace and Pendant
Now this is truly a hoppy gift to give to your special someone–an ornate hop vine and flower drawing from an antique book print in a 1 inch round silver plated setting and filled with a beautiful glass dome. It comes with a silver-plated chain and lobster clasp and is delivered in a muslin jewelry bag for easy gifting or storage. The best part? Not only is this baby handmade, but it’s only $12 on Etsy.

Brooklyn Brine/Dogfish Head Hop Pickle

I am dying to try these Hop Pickles from small artisan pickling company Brooklyn Brine, made in collaboration with Dogfish Head Brewing. They’re made with Dogfish Head’s 60 Minute IPA, caramelized onions, and cascade hops. As a huge fan of beer and spicy pickles, I am even more excited that it reportedly has just a hint of habanero heat. You can order a jar for $8 from Dogfish Head or if you’re bulk ordering,$11 from Amazon.com.

Craft Beer Spice Rub

You probably like to grill, and you definitely like beer, and thus Baker’s Bark new spice rub is made from dehydrated craft beer and hungarian paprika, chiles, spices, turbinado sugar, kosher salt, herbs, cayenne, and black pepper This all-natural seasoning goes great with pork, beef, chicken, fish, or game. It’s also recommended for vegetables, dips, sauces, soups, chili, and spicy cocktails. According to the makers, “it’s spicy, it’s warm, it’s complex, it’s malty. It’s delicious. Rub it in good.” Best of all, it’s affordable at $5.95 each.

Bicycle Bottle Opener

Portlanders like their bikes and their beer, so it makes sense that everything we need to drink beer be attached to our bicycles somehow. Here comes the Bicycle Bottle Opener, available in stainless steel or 6061 aluminum and made to last. It fits a 1-1/8″ bicycle headset and makes for a cool personal touch to your bike. No more fumbling around for a bottle opener while trying to open a cold one on your way home from work; $14.95 each.

In a better time, beer would be delivered to your door in glass bottles in a wooden crate. This handmade recycled wooden crate insures the safe delivery of six 12oz bottles of your favorite brew. It’s base has been raised to create a platform for your beer, while a copper handle makes it easy to carry. A recessed bottle opener can uncap your brew easily. Custom Iron Pipe Draft Beer Tower
If you have more than a few bucks to spend, this custom 3 tap beer tower is worth your money. Perhaps you’re even starting your own bar? Made from dark iron pipe and chrome, it’s available in a variety of versions, from 1 faucet to 8, and comes standard with chrome faucets and shanks.
