10 Barrel Brewing Opening Portland Brewpub

Bend-based 10 Barrel Brewing will open its 3rd restaurant in the brewers other major market of Portland, right across the street from Rogue’s Flanders Street location in the Pearl District. This will join 10 Barrel’s restaurant in its hometown of Bend and a more recently opened brewpub with it’s own brewhouse in Boise, Idaho.

The new pub is taking over the Mellow Mushroom space (no word on whether the outdoor paint job is staying) at 14th and NW Flanders. Details are scarce and there is no word on who the new brewer will be or the size of the brewhouse the location will have, but the team hopes to be open by mid-summer.

10 Barrel partner Garrett Wales says, “A new brewpub means more opportunities to put out small batch and one-off beers. The challenge of opening in Portland, one of the most innovative and educated brewing communities in the country, isn’t lost on us… we know expectations are high and we’re excited to get after it.”

It looks like 10 Barrel Brewing is going to beat Ohio-based Fat Head’s Brewing to the punch. Last year Fat Head’s announced it will be opening its own brewpub in the Pearl, just blocks away from where 10 Barrel will be. As of a week ago, no construction seemed to have taken place at the Fat Head’s location, which was also scheduled to open this summer.

As I understood it the Fat Head’s location is three blocks away on 13th and Davis.

Glad they’re opening this up here but what a rubbish location (one of the reasons cited for MM’s closure and probably every other business that’s been there briefly).

Wow, with being so close to Rogue and rogue beer prices this could take a big chunk out of Rogue’s business

let’s hope (?) – the service and food are heinous to say the least. 10 Barrel beer is great- I hope they step up the food offerings. Nail in the coffin. Woot. No, I mean, a high tide raises all ships. Ok, no I don’t.
