It was a golden year for Portland’s  Old Town Brewing ® (OTB®) at the 2015 Great American Beer Festival (GABF) last weekend. Old Town won a gold medal in the highly contentious English-style IPA category for its Shanghai’d IPA.

“This has been an incredible year for Old Town, from debuting in bottles, to our offbeat, noteworthy mushroom ale, this award is an amazing culmination of all our hard work, and we’re incredibly honored,” said Adam Milne, owner of Old Town Brewing Co. “We are thrilled to be a part of GABF, representing the Oregon brew scene and celebrating with our industry colleagues, and couldn’t be more pleased with our success at this year’s festival.”

OTB was recognized in the English-Style India Pale Ale category for its Shanghai’d IPA. A nod to Old Town’s most storied history, this is a medium-bodied IPA with grapefruit, resinous and piney hop aroma and flavors balanced by a touch of malt sweetness. OTB is a 7-barrel brewpub located in Portland, OR, whose high-quality craft beer is inspired by the Pacific Northwest’s unique ingredients, spirit, and culture. A reflection of its surroundings, OTB creates a fundamentally Portland beer drinking experience for its consumers.  The brewery began selling its award winning beers in bottles across Oregon in 2015, making its exceptional brews available to even more of Oregon’s craft beer enthusiasts.

The 2015 GABF competition winners were selected by an international panel of 222 expert judges from the record number of over 6,700 entries, plus 89 Pro-Am entries, received from 1,309 U.S. breweries.

“Once again the Great American Beer Festival brings the best of the best together in one place,” said Chris Swersey, competition manager. “At a time when American brewers offer so much variety, it’s a true honor to be recognized as one of the finest. Our greatest gratitude to the winners and all entrants whose innovative and outstanding beers help make this such an esteemed competition.”
