Weekend Event Pick: Brews for New Avenues

Tomorrow is the world’s largest rare beer auction–and a great benefit festival for homeless and at-risk youth–at the 4th annual Brews for New Avenues in Portland, Oregon. Taking place in the Leftbank Annex on Saturday September 12th, at 5pm, this party goes beyond bidding on exclusive beers; it’s an opportunity to try many of them for a low cost, as well as enjoy special food and drinks, live music, and both of the big college football games showing on a projector. Since I wrote about this event about a month ago, the organizers have revealed a lot more of the rare and exclusive beers.

Brews for New Avenues will feature more than 50 kegs of international and domestic craft beer on tap, including Cantillon’s Kriek and de Struise’s Cuvee Delphine, alongside Upright’s One in the Tree and Base Camp’s Scotch Ale–both brewed exclusively for this year’s event. Attendees can also enjoy the “Wall of Beer” (pay $10, select a mystery bottle), chocolate stout beer floats, oysters from Foster’s Craft Cooking, food from Pulehu Pizza and Koi Fusion, and live music from tribute bands Life During Wartime and Gold Dust.

This year’s all-star auction slate includes a bottle of Grote Dorst 2008 Oude Geuze Magnum (single bottles sell for $4,000 at other auctions), a bottle of Cantillon’s Pineau d’Aunis, and bottles from Hill Farmstead, de Garde and more.
