The writing has been on the wall, but today Breakside Brewery announced plans to open a new northwest Portland Brewpub adjacent to the new New Seasons Marketplace at NW 22nd and Raleigh. Not simply another restaurant, this new location will house a brand new brewery with its own brewer cranking out even more special beers. The restaurant will also be larger, with a big outdoor patio/dining area and possibly even a rooftop beer garden. The goal is for the new location to open by early summer 2016.
The new brewpub is part of the Block 296 Project, a new mixed-use project designed to anchor development in the Slabtown District of NW Portland. The project is being developed by Cairn Pacific LLC and Capstone Partners, and represents the first project underway in the Con-Way property which is targeted to become one of Portland’s next, greenest neighborhoods.
Breakside’s new brewpub will be 5,0oo square feet with an outdoor patio and mezzanine designed by local firm Green Gables and employ an estimated 75 new people. The menu will be upscale and feature locally-sourced items similar to the Woodlawn brewpub. The brewery is still under works, but will have its own brewer churning out brand new brews for the 3rd location, making it a worthy destination even if you live near either of the other two Breakside locations. (No word yet on the size of the brewhouse or who the head brewer will be). Breakside is probably the only brewery in the state with a 1/1 brewery to taproom ratio. Usually in Oregon, one brewhouse supports 2-3 pubs. The only other breweries in Oregon I can think of that have more than two breweries in the state are Deschutes and McMenamins. Also worth noting, Breakside has produced over 100 different beers each year for the last two years, and now there will be yet another location releasing even more new brews.
