CiderCon Kicks Off in Portland this Week

This week Portland hosts CiderCon, the national cider conference takes place February 2-5 at the Hilton Downtown Portland, but there are tons of outside satellite events going on, like Saraveza’s unofficial official CiderCon Kick-Off Party today, Monday, February 1st, from 6-9pm. So even if you’re not a pro who’s registered for the trade events and seminars, there are plenty of cool tappings and parties around town. Portland’s Cider Riot, Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider, and Bushwhacker Cider are all doing lots of events, and 2 Towns Ciderhouse, Schilling, Swift, NW Cider Brokers, and more also have some parties all across town. Here are a few highlights.

2/1 Unofficial CiderCon Kickoff Party @ Saraveza 6-9pm

Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider is the guest for this unofficial kickoff event. 2/3 Finnriver Cider Social @ Bushwhacker Cider – Woodlawn 6-9pm

Limited release draft offerings from Finnriver Farm & Cidery will include the ‘Frog Eye Roll Cider’ made with organic ginger and Oregon water-grown wasabi from Frog Eyes Wasabi. A flight of Finnriver’s farmcrafted, small batch Crew Selection ciders will be available, as well as a Finnriver Pommeau Hot Toddy. Sample and select your favorite bottles to enjoy at the event or take them to go. 2/5 NW Cider Brokers Showcase @ Loyal Legion 5-7pm

As a celebration of #CiderCon2016, NW Cider Brokerswill be taking over the taps at the Loyal Legion with their portfolio of amazing NW cider brands. Red Tank Cider, Swift Cider, and WildCraft Cider Works will all be featured. – $4 Tasting Tray for 6 NW Cider Broker ciders with CiderCon badge or OLCC Servers permit. 2/5 The Skimmity Hitchers Live @ Cider Riot! 8-11:30pm

All the way from the cider sheds of England’s West Country, the Skimmity Hitchers play Scrumpy & Western at it’s finest. Their sound is a cider-fuelled mix of folk punk, rockabilly and ska.  Get an exculsive sneak peek at Cider Riot’s new home for this grand finale to Cidercon.  Cider Riot will be pouring some reserve 1763 scrumpy from their first harvest in 2013, as well as selected ciders from some of the best cidermakers in Cascadia. 2/5 CiderCon Closing Night Party @ Reverend Nat’s Hard Cider 4-11pm

Also called the Best of the Northwest Rare Cider Night, this party at Reverend Nat’s Hard Cidery functions as an unofficial end to CiderCon with ma guest cideries, collaborations and food from Gonzo Falafel. 12 Taps of rare cider from both Rev. Nat’s and our favorite Northwest Cideries. Confirmed cideries include: Rev. Nat’s, Finnriver Farm & Cidery, Alpenfire, Far Afield, Baird & Dewar Farmhouse, Apple Outlaw.
