Lagunitas Brewing Opening ‘Community Room’ in Portland

Just as The New School first reported, Lagunitas Brewing is opening a Portland location called the Community Room on August 1st, 2016. The original location in downtown Portland did not work out and the new spot is across the river at 237 NE Broadway, only about 2 blocks from Reverend Nat’s Hard Cidery. That’s not all, though; Lagunitas announced it is planning to open a similar taproom in San Diego and is acquiring stakes in three exiting breweries: Moonlight Brewing in the Bay Area, and two others I had not heard of: Southend Brewery and Smokehouse (Charleston, SC) and Independence Brewing Co (Austin, TX).

On the Portland location, don’t expect a regular taproom or pub. The Lagunitas Community Room is purely an event/fundraiser space for non-profits and other charitable projects. Lagunitas communication director Karen Hamilton says the new Community Room is “A Purely Non-Profit Fund Raising Community Room.”

100% of the direction for the Community Room is supporting non-profits, aka tax exempt 501(c)3 organizations. A small Lagunitas staff is being hired to help run and assist events for up to 5-7 days of the week. If you’re an interested non-profit, the brewery has a webpage for that:
