Preview of the Lagunitas Brewing Community Room in Portland

I had a first hand preview along with many area non-profits of the Lagunitas Brewing ‘Community Room’ at 237 NE Broadway in Portland. Though still not quite finished, it’s a bright open space with group picnic tables and couches and arm chairs. The bar was still not yet installed but will feature Lagunitas beers for sale with all profits benefitting the select non-profit.

The Community Room, located conveniently near the Moda Center, Reverend Nat’s, Upright Brewing and the streetcar is a remodeled glass walled open space that can hold a couple hundred people with minimal seating. The space, while not quite finished, is decked out with picnic table seating throughout the main open floor plan with a corner area with a rug, love seats and couches. It’s setup for minimal amplified live music with basic PA and lighting.

Unless your a non-profit or attending a fundraiser you might not get to check out this space though. It’s strictly for charity events, Lagunitas will not even hold their own parties or events. The room comes with a small staff, including events manager Bailey Hamilton, recently moved to Portland from Chicago. Bailey is the daughter of Lagunitas new communications and marketing director Karen Hamilton, who is the sister of Lagunitas founder/owner Tony Magee.

While some have decried Lagunitas for selling a 50% stake in the company to Heineken, Tony has kept the brewery on the same path only with even more investments into the community and other small breweries. With the Lagunitas Community Room, it’s hard to imagine a more altruistic operation. Not only offering the space for free but all the Lagunitas beer and even a bartender. Non-profits are free to bring in their own food, staff and outside wine or spirits. Lagunitas is not even putting any stipulations on what or whom they support any 501C3 and will host them up to 7 days a week.

The Lagunitas Community Room is already booking fundraiser events for September. To apply or find out more info at, the Lagunitas Community Room is located at 237 NE Broadway, Portland, OR
