If you are making the pilgrimage to Denver next week for the annual Great American Beer Festival, or even if you missed out on tickets, there are dozens of other great events happening around town outside of the beer fest. The entire Unites States beer community seems to converge on Denver around GABF, so breweries take the opportunity to throw lots of parties, plus there are so many people in town that there is plenty of room for spillover events and festivals. Here are a few of the best ones this year that we are looking forward to.

What the Funk!? Invitational Festival to Return for GABF 2016

Tuesday, October 4th 6-10pm

What the Funk!? Invitational is returning to Denver for the 2016 Great American Beer Festival, with proceeds benefiting a local non-profit organization! Last year’s WTF!? Invitational festival raised $26,000 for two local non-profit organizations, Cancer Climber and Water for People. The fifth installment of WTF!? will take place at the EXDO Event Center (1399 35th St. Denver, CO 80205) on Tuesday, October 4th, 2016 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m.

What the Funk!? Invitational is a celebration of all things barrel-aged from boozy and strong to wild, sour, and funky.

Sponsored by Denver-based Crooked Stave Artisan Beer Project and Shelton Brothers, this festival features numerous breweries from across the United States and around the World making some of the best barrel-aged libations.

In a break from last year’s setup, which featured its fair share of complications on festival day, this year’s festival will return to its roots at the EXDO event center. In order to make sure this year’s festival goes off with a bang, and maybe a few popping corks, the brewery has also partnered with Shelton Brothers for a little added excitement. The EXDO Event Center offers a large open space, with unobstructed access to the brewers and artisans, all in a meet and greet style hangout.

“We learned a lot from last year’s festival,” said Crooked Stave Owner/Brewmaster Chad Yakobson. “It is always our mission to put on the best barrel-aged festival we possibly can by bringing in exciting brewers from around the world that would not be here in Denver if it were not for this festival. That did not translate in 2015 as it did in year’s past, as we would have hoped. All we can do is hang in there and strive to make this year the best of any of the years for every festival goer.”

WTF!? Invitational is one of the only festivals in the world to feature so many of the best barrel- aged beers under one roof with all the artisans present. This year will feature more beer from each brewer in attendance, a simplified layout in order to easily access all the brewers, as well as a reduced number of tickets available, with the size of the crowd decreasing by 25% from brewers and other alchemists who create sought after barrel-aged liquids.

last year. “With a smaller crowd of participants, back to our old home at EXDO Event Center which holds 1500 people and more beer it should mean a great experience and amazing night of tasting many rare barrel-aged beers from around the world,” said Co-curator of WTF?! and Crooked Stave COO Yetta Vorobik-Yakobson. “Plans are also in place to minimize the time in line by prescreening and allowing guests to get checked in early so participants can be ready to taste right at 6:00 p.m.”

Tickets will go on sale Wednesday, August 24th, 2016 at 10 a.m. Mountain Standard Time on www.wtfinvitational.com. This year’s WTF!? Invitational will offer general admission tickets for $100, taxes and fees included and 800 total tickets available. Proceeds from this year’s What the Funk!? Invitational will benefit Water for People, a local non-profit organization that works to provide clean water systems to developing countries.

Beers Made By Walking / GABF 2016

Tuesday, Oct. 4 /// 5:30 – 8:30pm
Denver Museum of Nature and Science /// 2001 Colorado Blvd. Denver, CO 80205
$35 /// Tickets Available in Early September

Beers Made By Walking invites brewers to go on nature hikes and make new beers inspired by plants observed on the trail. Each beer is a unique, drinkable portrait of the landscape. We are excited to announce our annual festival will take place at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science on Tuesday, Oct. 4, from 5:30-8:30pm MST. Now in its sixth year, the event showcases more than 30 place-based beers to the countless beer lovers that have gathered in Denver for the Great American Beer Festival.

Over 25 of the beers were made specifically for this event by Colorado breweries that have collaborated with us. Each beer is inspired by landscapes in an area of the brewer’s choosing. Brewers have hiked up 14,000 foot mountains, trekked through lush canyons, camped in national parks, and strolled through community gardens to find inspiration. Additionally, Scratch Brewing (Ava, IL) and Fonta Flora (Morganton, NC) will serve a few specialty offerings from their respective portfolios that include beers with foraged ingredients.

Tickets will be available in early September via the Museum’s Facebook page. Visitors will receive special glassware for the event and unlimited access to the beers until they run out.

We are happy to announce that proceeds from the event will benefit the Museum.

Great Divide Brewing Company and Jameson Caskmates Present Levitt Pavilion Denver Live! on October 7th

Great Divide Brewing Company and Jameson Caskmates present a special post-Great American Beer Festival fundraiser concert, Levitt Pavilion Denver Live! at Summit Music Hall on Friday, October 7th at 8PM. The event features the 2016 The Voice finalist and nationally acclaimed artist, Laith Al-Saadi with Colorado’s rising star Brent Cowles and Austin mainstay Garrett Lebeau.
“There is so much to say about this concert and our partnerships with both Jameson and Levitt Denver,” said Shannon Berner, marketing manager at Great Divide. “To be able to host an event with Jameson Caskmates during GABF and showcase our collaboration is amazing. What better way to fundraise for Levitt than with incredible live music, whiskey, and beer?”
Levitt Pavilion Denver Live! is a fundraising event for Levitt Pavilion Denver, a local non-profit focused on elevating the local music scene and increasing accessibility to free live music through construction of the new Levitt Pavilion in Ruby Hill Park. The concert also doubles as a launch party for the Great Divide and Jameson Caskmates collaboration beer.
In 2015 Great Divide was honored to be one of the five American craft breweries selected to partner with Jameson for their Caskmates Drinking Buddies program. After their first collaboration beer, they sent their barrels back to Ireland for Jameson to fill with whiskey. This year, Jameson invited Great Divide once again to join them in Ireland for more collaboration. Together they created a one-of-a-kind beer aged in Jameson Whiskey Barrels. The end result is a unique craft beer with hints of Jameson Whiskey called The Smoothness.
The Smoothness is a dark larger with whiskey notes, chocolate, oak, and leather aroma. Upon first sip, drinkers will experience a velvety, silky feeling with roasted malt, vanilla, and oak flavors. The Smoothness comes in at 8.5 percent ABV. The Smoothness will only be available for a limited time, with the first tasting during Levitt Pavilion Denver Live!
“We are extremely excited to bring our community together and celebrate raising awareness of Levitt Pavilion,” said Chris Zacher, executive director of Levitt Pavilion Denver. “Great Divide and Jameson have been incredible in their support and we are proud to present this top-notch show to the city of Denver.”
Tickets to this special concert are $25 with 100 percent of ticket sales benefitting Levitt Pavilion Denver. Each ticket includes Jameson Caskmates Irish Whiskey, Great Divide Brewing Company beer and small bites, as well as an exclusive opportunity to try ‘The Smoothness’ collaboration beer.
“Jameson has a long history of dedication to their community, and their craft. It’s incredible to be able to turn a launch event for our collaboration beer and whiskey into a fundraiser for Levitt. Add incredible music to that, put it on the Friday night of GABF week, and this event really has everything,” said Berner.
This show is 21+. Tickets can be purchase online at http://bit.ly/LevittPavilionDenverLive.
