Bazi Hosting Three Portland Beer Week Events

Portland Beer Week is only halfway in, and Bazi Bierbrasserie (1522 SE 32nd Ave in the Hawthorne District) still has three events to host: the annual Mussels from Brussels has become a beer week classic, now in its 5th year; Battle of the Belgians, a US vs European taste-off also returns; and last year’s new beer week workout is back as well!

Wednesday, June 14: Battle of the Belgians

It’s Flag Day so what an appropriate day to have a friendly US versus Belgium beer competition. Four US Belgian-inspired styles will be selected to go against four Belgians. Think wit vs wit, saison vs saison, you get the point. Last year Belgium won 3-1. This year’s Battle lineup:

Wit: ColdFire Wit vs Lefvbre Bruxelles de Chambly
Saison: Migration Saison de Blanc vs Du Bocq Saison

Tripel: Occidental Tripel vs Bazi Hofbrouw Tripel
Quad: Upright/Bazi Quad vs Straffe Hendrik Quad

Join us on Wednesday, June 14 between 5-9 PM. It’s your opportunity to try some of these beers side by side and let your palette decide your preferred style. Cost: $15 for 8 – 5 oz tasters.

Thursday, June 15: Mussels from Brussels

The ultimate challenge, Mussels from Brussels returns for its 5th year. Five breweries (Breakside, Culmination, Lompoc, pFriem, and Upright), five secret sauces created by each brewery for dipping in one pound of mussels served with fries, and paired with their Belgian-inspired beer.

But there’s only one “Mussels from Brussels”. You be the judge.

Seating will take place every 30 minutes between 5:30-8:30 PM. Awards ceremony will take place at 9 PM once all votes have been tallied. Limit of 10 persons per seating. Cost is $28 per person plus processing fees and pre-purchase is required via Eventbrite.

Saturday, June 17: PDX Beer Week Workout

Nourish Northwest loves good beer as much as they thrive in healthy living and exercise! Let’s celebrate our city’s beer culture for PDX beer week with a 30 minute HIIT(High-Intensity Interval-Training) workout starting at Nourish Northwest followed by a short .8 mile walk/run down the street to Bazi. Start time is 10:30 AM so plan to arrive 15 minutes early.

At Bazi you will be greeted by owner, Hilda Stevens who will give you a quick intro on Belgian beers and provide samples of both of Bazi’s house beers – A tripel brewed in Belgium and quad brewed in collaboration with Upright brewing.
