Portland’s newest brewery is Second Profession Brewing, softly open now in the space formerly occupied by BTU Brasserie Brewing at NE 58th and Sandy. You may recall we first reported this change in ownership back in July; especially of note is the new German beer hall theme and owner Charlie Goman’s plan to have the best beer and bratwurst in town.
Reopened after the brewpub was sold turnkey from BTU to Second Profession, the pub/restaurant space still looks similar to before but with a paint job and modern accents. The layout, bar, and brewery are basically the same but now with new seating and some modern design elements. It’s bright and white. If you stop by now, you will find a still fairly bare bones space, beer list and menu so we won’t get into any sort of review until at least after the Grand Opening Celebration in a couple of weeks, Friday Oct 27th through Sunday Oct 29th.
At this point there are three beers on tap–a Pale Ale, a Rye IPA, and a Farmhouse Ale, all which taste like early batches. I also tried the bratwurst braised in stout, and it was pretty decent; I enjoyed the three different sauces on the side and pickled onions. The bratwurst itself was pretty average. Second Profession only has a trial small menu at this point, another reason to wait until the Grand Opening or later for a more fleshed out experience.

Friday, Oct. 27th – Celebrating Sausage!
Friday from 5-8 PM we will be offering both our Zenner Bier Sausage and our Polish Sausage on a stick! We will also be offering our sausages on a bun with choice of house cut Kennebec fries or warm German potato salad.
Saturday, Oct. 28th – Debuting our Hazy IPA! Saturday at 4 PM we will be debuting our Hazy IPA!
Sunday, Oct. 29th– Beer Cocktails!
Sunday at 4 PM we will introduce our 4th beer cocktail!
In the meantime, Second Profession Brewing is now open Wednesday – Sunday from 4-10pm at 5846 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, Oregon 97213
