First look at Double Mountain Brewery & Cidery’s new Overlook Taproom in North Portland

Double Mountain Brewery & Cidery Opens new Pub in North Portland

Hood River, Oregon founded Double Mountain Brewery & Cidery has opened their third location in north Portland’s overlook neighborhood. The beautiful new space is the former location of Lucky Lab Brew Pub on N. Killingsworth, not far from beer bars like Saraveza and Tulip Shop Tavern.

Double Mountain has recreated the same family-friendly cozy and quirky ambiance of their other two locations, the Brewery in Hood River and the second Taproom in the Woodstock neighborhood of Portland, which opened in 2016. The transition into a former Lucky Lab seems to have been fairly seamless, though the ambiance and decor is quite different.

Lucky Lab was also a casual family-friendly pizzeria, but Double Mountain has given the space an overhaul that leaves the layout and structure in place but wholly replaced other elements like a brand new bar that emulates the one in Hood River. The space has been polished up with new vintage beer can art, deep comfortable booths, and an events room that can host large private parties.

The 4,600 sq. ft. Taproom consist of three separate rooms, with a bar in the main room which will house nearly 20 taps that will flow with Double Mountain’s unfiltered and long-aged beers, regional ciders, and house-made sodas. The food menu at the new Taproom is a direct replication of Double Mountain’s older Woodstock pub, with the same sandwiches, salads, and New Haven-style Pizza. The pies toppings are more east coast then midwest, signature pizzas like The Buffy have crumbled goat cheese, kalamatas, peppadew peppers and are finished with fresh basil. The Jersey Pie is a favorite, with hot capicola, provolone and Mama Lil's peppers. The White Pie is a cult classic; a white pie with mozzarella, crumbled goat cheese, portabella mushrooms marinated in truffle oil; finished with green onions. And YES, they will be serving the seasonal Heirloom Tomato Pie in late August/September coinciding with fresh hop season.

Double Mountain is also excited to explore the potential for more house made offerings unique to this location. You can also expect to enjoy free live music, and a small limited cocktail list and hand selected wines.

Double Mountain Brewery Taproom Overlook at 1700 N Killingsworth St, Portland, OR 97217 is open from 11am to 9pm Sunday through Thursday, and until 10pm on Fridays and Saturdays. The official grand opening is Saturday, July 8th, but curious fans can stop in starting Friday.
