Growler's Taproom Opens 2nd Location on SE 82nd Ave.

Growler's Taproom took over the former Growler's Hawthorne in July 2017, and now have opened up a second location on 82nd Ave. behind Henry's Mini Mart at SE Morrison. Owners Binh Pham and Joe Rodgers purchased the space on Hawthorne that was previously called Growler's Hawthorne and turned it into a much more cozy, dimly lit and darkly decorated cozy taproom rather than just growler fill station and have now built another taproom into the back of a dingy mini mart that filled growlers on 82nd. There are surprisingly few options for beer on the long strip of 82nd, the primary other option being the Steinhaus from the owners of Roscoe's at SE 82nd and Division. The new 82nd ave Growler's Taproom has nineteen draft lines to work with although not all were filled on my recent visit. The spot has only been open about a week and is still ramping up and must make more room in their keg cooler to keep all the lines flowing. Twelve of those taps were filled on my visit and displayed on a Digital Pour screen with pint and growler fill prices. From 2pm to 4pm is a daily happy hour with $1 off all beers. The space itself is slightly hidden behind the mini mart and fairly bare bones except for two pinball machines, two flat screens and one of those with a Playstation 2 hooked up to it. Yes, you can come in and grab a pint and do a bit of gaming while your at it. Like the Hawthorne location, they don't serve food which means you can bring yours in. In addition to the mini mart that shares the building it's also just a few blocks from some top notch Mexican street food at Los Alambres and the 5Demayo Tienda Mexicana market just south at 82nd and Taylor or go north and you are a few blocks away from all the food options on SE Stark. I should note Growler's Taoproom 82nd does have a little free popcorn machine if you have the munchies. For me the draw might be the intimate and dog friendly space where you can catch up on some old gaming classics like a round of Tekken 3 or go even older school and grab one of their board games. Pop in for a quick game and get a growler filled to-go and/or some groceries next door at Henry's while traveling the 82nd corridor.
