Breakside Seeker IPA Series Highlights Experimental Beers in 16oz Cans

Breakside Brewery is delivering small batch and experimental IPA's in shiny new 16oz cans straight from the brewery and into beer geeks hearts. The Seeker IPA Series is a monthly rotating limited release beer lineup designed to showcase some of the Portland/Milwaukie brewers most innovative and hop-forward beers. The beers will runthe gamut from hazy to west coast, to Austin and New Zealand-style double dry-hopped offerings with no limit to the brewers worldwide inspirations.

Breakside has been known for their hoppy beers ever since winning a prestigious gold medal at the Great American Beer Festival in 2014 for their flagship IPA. However, Breakside has never really done cans outside of the occasional one-off and never 16oz tall boy cans. The Seeker Series will also highlight many of the experimental hops and beers that were once only found at their taprooms and disappeared quickly.

Many of the Seeker Series IPA's were workshopped at Breakside's NW Slabtown 'hop lab' over the past two years before fine tuning for wider can release. Each beer in the series is unique, but what they all share in common includes intense contemporary hop aroma and flavor, low bitterness, and the easygoing drinkability that is the hallmark of Breakside hoppy beers.

UPCOMING BREAKSIDE SEEKER SERIES RELEASES

SEEKER IPA SERIES SCHEDULE OF RELEASES

Aug./Sept. - Love Bubbles Brut IPA

Love Bubbles is an experimental IPA that we developed at our Slabtown pub as a variation on Brut IPA, and this is the first time it is seeing a wide release. This IPA has an extra light body, finishes very dry, and showcases the amazing range of flavors of Strata, one of our favorite new hops. We pair Strata here with Lemondrop, and the result is a beer redolent of gooseberry, passionfruit, and Meyer lemon zest. The snappy finish and high level of carbonation make this a perfect summertime sparkler; think of an icy wine spritzer loaded with fruity hop aromatics. Cheers!

Sept./Oct. - Smashbang IPA

Smashbang is a kinda hazy, kinda West Coast IPA that we originally designed with our friends at Figueroa Mountain Brewing Co. When they were visiting Portland, we thought it would be an awesome opportunity to brew a beer together based on some new ideas we'd all been working on, and Smashbang emerged as the brainchild of our collective creative whims. We wanted to use a soft ester-forward yeast, clean European malts, and an international array of hops to break some new ground in hop-forward beers. Here you'll find a blend of some of our favorite new hop varietals including Waimea, Wakatu, and Galaxy. This beer is a fruity hop bomb with notes of melon, passionfruit, starfruit, and peach. Cheers!

Hops: Wakatu, Waimea, Galaxy
Malts: Pilsner, Wheat, CaraHell
ABV 6% IBU 44

Oct./Nov. - Hop Delivery Mechanism Double IPA

A double IPA that bridges the worlds of new hop varieties like Azacca and Ella with the classic flavors of Simcoe and Amarillo.

Nov./Dec. - Biotransformers Austin-style IPA

A simple yet characterful malt base is the platform for big additions of Citra, Simcoe, and Vics Secret hops.

Dec./Jan. - Hail Nelson New Zealand-style IPA

Hail Nelson is a hazy IPA with a heavy dose of Nelson Sauvin hops. Breakside is still tinkering with the supporting hops in the beer, but this will be the most Southern Hemisphere-forward of the Seeker series and should have big notes of papaya, guava, and petrol-heavy riesling.
