Celebrate Hanukkah with Leikam Brewing's 2019 Maccabeer

Winter seasonal beers that celebrate Christian or agnostic holidays are common, but how often (or ever) have you had a Hanukkah (or Chanukah) beer? Portland's only kosher certified brewery Leikam Brewing has dropped their 2019 Maccabeer, a Hanukkah beer that supports Habitat for Humanity's House That Beer Built project.

The 2019 edition of Maccabeer is a winter IPA will generate funds to support the House That Beer Built, a partnership between Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East and local craft breweries.

If you want to get your hands on Maccabeer, Leikam has a new taproom at 5812 E Burnside St, Portland, OR 97215 and they are now distributed from the new High Road Distribution group.

Often mislabeled as the Jewish Christmas, Chanukah is an eight-day, wintertime “festival of lights,” is celebrated with a nightly menorah lighting, special prayers and fried foods. The Hebrew word Chanukah means “dedication”. In the second century BCE, the Seleucids (Syrian-Greeks), tried to force the Jews to accept Greek culture and beliefs and destroyed the Holy Temple. Against all odds, a small band of faithful but poorly armed Jews, led by Judah the Maccabee, defeated the Greeks and reclaimed the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. This year Chanukah begins Sunday, December 22nd at sundown.
