Bourbon Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout heats up the Winter

Dogfish Head's classic World Wide Imperial Stout is now available in barrel-aged form. More than a decade ago, World Wide Stout was once known as the strongest beer in the world as it hovered around 20% abv but has since been toned back to 15-18%. WWS is one of those beers that pours like motor oil, flavors full of charred oak, cofee and licorice notes before the rest of the industry tried emulating it and making increasingly flavored versions of Imperial Stout. Dogfish Head has played with flavorings as well, Vanilla World Wide Stout in the past, now this bourbon barrel-aged version.

Description: Rare and often rumored about in the darkest corners of the beer community, World Wide Stout is brewed with a ridiculous amount of barley for a dark, rich, roasty and complex beer with flavors of roasted malt and subtle coffee notes. For this variant, we took our fan-favorite World Wide Stout and aged it in charred oak bourbon barrels that were still wet with spirits upon their arrival to the brewery. From this aging, the beer gained flavors of licorice balanced by the caramelly-smooth finish of bourbon. With its high ABV, Bourbon Barrel-Aged World Wide Stout is an excellent candidate for cellaring.
