The Growler Run hosts Sour Fest in Oregon City

The Growler Run

In-person beer events are not completely gone, Oregon City, Oregon's The Growler Run taphouse presents their first Sour Fest this Saturday, August 8th from 12-10pm.

The Growler Run will be turning 20 of their 34 taps into sour beers for the day and offering taster trays of four different 5oz pours. If you are not a sour beer fan, Growler Run will still have 14 taps of clean styles like lagers, IPA's, stouts, ciders and even seltzer.

Many people will be asking how this event can safely go down during a pandemic: Tents and tables will be set up in the parking lot out front of Growler Run and everything properly spaced. The taproom had success with doing longer form distanced events like this with their 6th anniversary party last month. 10 hours of event time, taster trays that discourage patrons lining up for beers, and an extended amount of space are designed to discourage clumps of people gathering.

"As always though we ask people to make good decisions for themselves about being around people. If the crowd gets too big we'll ask people to maybe walk to one of the restaurants in our center and grab a bite then see if it thinned out. As always we allow food to be brought in from anywhere," says Growler Run co-owner Grant Farrell.

Live music from solo musician Jon Jeseritz will be playing outside the taproom from 4pm-6pm, and a merchandise raffle with participating breweries swag will raise funds to benefit Breast Friends.

Standard pricing for beer flights are $7 but with some of the more expensive sour beers on tap there will be individual pours that run $4-$5 per 5oz pour. And yes, with a name like The Growler Run they will still be filling outside growlers or even crowlering 16 or 32oz crowlers to-go.

"My personal goal for the event is to make a few new sour fans, which is why we'll have a good number of easy drinkers and Hillock in particular is known for their "Gateway" sours," says Farrell, who also notes some beer nerd faves are on the list for the hardcore sour beer fans.
