Double Mountain Releases Dry Cider in Refillable 12oz Bottles

Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom is releasing its Dry Cider in refillable 12oz glass bottles and six packs. Double Mountain has already found success with refillable 12oz bottles of Hop Lion IPA and Pale Ale. The Hood River-based brewery also just released a special Estate Heirloom Cider in limited 500ml bottles that are available now. Double Mountain Dry Cider is now available at the Double Mountain taprooms in Portland and Hood River, and soon throughout the Pacific Northwest.More from a press release:Keeping it simple and local, we use a blend of freshly harvested local heirloom apples from Double Mountain Orchards and local Hood River Newtowns, Braeburns, Hanners for old world complexity. We gave this cider plenty of time to dry out and develop wondrous aromas of juicy pear, lychee, green fruit, and chamomile. It finishes tart, crisp, dry, and quenching.Beginning in 2012, Double Mountain became the first brewery on the West Coast to bring refillable glass bottles back to the market place. “I’ve been brewing for over 25 years and I grew up in an area of the country that still used refillable bottles when I was in college.” -says Matt Swihart. Most refillable glass in the United States began transitioning to one-way glass (throw-away or recycled) in the seventies. Prior to our introduction of refillable glass in the Northwest, only two breweries in the US still packaged beer in the world’s most sustainable container.Working with the OBRC(Oregon Beverage Recycling Cooperative), Double Mountain continues to assist in the set up of a local recycling infrastructure which allows the purchase of glass locally. Following use, the glass is collected to be cleaned and refilled.Oregon breweries are extremely well positioned to take advantage of the new refillable bottle program. The program provides local source glass bottle production, collection and separation, cleaning, and bottle return for refill at the brewery. Double Mountain and the OBRC are setting a new standard and model which other states are able to emulate. Since proving the concept in Oregon, we set up collection sites in the Seattle area and beyond, allowing the glass return to Oregon, ultimately expanding our efforts. Refillable glass can be cleaned and reused 25 times before replacement and takes only two percent of the aluminum can carbon footprint, continuing work for the sustainable future of our planet.“As a brewery with a sustainable mindset, we recognize that packaging is one of the ways we can reduce the impact we have on our environment and lessen the carbon footprint of our beer. We are so incredibly excited to be the first to introduce Oregon’s refillable bottle, now in 6-packs across the state of Oregon and throughout the Northwest. The state of Oregon is leading the nation with the most sustainable way topackage beer.” - Brewmaster/Owner Matt SwihartThe following link from OPB has more information about the program; Oregon Launches First Statewide Refillable Bottle System In US https://www.opb.org/news/article/oregon-craft-beer-refillable-bottle-system/About Double Mountain Brewery and Taproom:Double Mountain Brewery and Taproom was established in 2007 in the heart of downtown Hood River, OR.Founder, Matt Swihart, opened the brewery with a clear mission: make great beer for craft beer fans.
