Rock Bottom Brewing's Portland Pub has Closed

The national chain of Rock Bottom Restaurant & Brewery's have closed their Portland, OR location at 206 SW Morrison St.. There was no notice or warning of the closure in advance, the company posted a brief message on their facebook page this afternoon saying they were permanently closed and took down the location page on their website. Opened in 1995, the Portland location was nearly 25 years old.

Rock Bottom is just one of a rash of local brewery closures that seem to be coming at a startlingly quickening pace. Last week it was Lompoc Brewing, other big chain taprooms like Henry's Tavern also closed this month. Is there room for the old guard? Or is it just outdated cookie cutter chains.

Despite not being a beer geek favorite, Rock Bottom PDX produced some great beers and brewers. Gigantic Brewing's Van Havig came from there, as did Bolt Minister who now owns 54-40 Brewing. Most recent brewmaster Todd Britt was also quite talented, just 2 weeks ago he won a Silver Medal for "Space Potato" Fresh Hop English-style Pale Ale at the Oregon Beer Awards Fresh Hop Competition.

We have reached out to Rock Bottom for more information on the closure. We will update this post when more info becomes available.
