When it comes to the culture of eating and drinking, there are many things that we lost from the before times during the pandemic. In Portland, one of the biggest casualties was the nearly ubiquitous 86ing of happy hours. Yes, the cheap deals on food and drink that once could be found across the city were no more in most places. We can speculate on the reasons for this (and there are many), but luckily happy hours are popping up like the first flowers of spring and some of the best deals can be found at breweries. Draft sales are also down as much as 40% in some places as our budgets for dining and drinking out are cut due to inflation (shit’s expensive now!) and breweries face the forces of oversaturation alongside the market of craft beer sales being down 2%. All of this is exasperated by a full frontal attack on alcohol as a whole, with consumers turning away from this social beverage as part of a trend towards wellness as one article after another preaches the dangers of drinking. But it isn’t all bad news. Portland breweries are stepping up their happy hour game these days with deals on food, pints, and more! If you care about supporting your local breweries but also want to save a buck, there are plenty of opportunities to partake in this welcome wave of happiness.  - Neil Ferguson (@musicjournzo)

These are Portland brewery happy hour deals that will put a smile on your face:

6112 SE Foster Rd, Portland, OR 97206

Daily to 5pm and from 8pm
$2 Off Small, $3 Off Large Pizzas and discounts on beer

Everyone knows that this Foster Road brewpub knocks their Detroit-style pizza out of the park, but did you also know they now offer a killer happy hour that takes place twice a day. Their mostly straightforward, decently reliable beers are pretty much a perfect compliment to the cheesy goodness of their Detroit pies that feature that signature crunchy crust. You can also get down on pinball as you enjoy a brew with your discounted pizza.

Considering that you’re lucky if you can find a burger for $15 anywhere other than a dive bar, this is a steal. Each of Breakside’s brewpub locations includes a selection of three different burgers that you can try alongside any beer on the expansive taplist. But the best part is that they are offering this deal all the frickin’ time! That means, for a price that is pretty much less than everywhere else in town for only a burger, you can have it all.

1570 NW 22nd Ave, and 820 NE Dekum St

Any Burger + Any beer $15 at Dekum and Slabtown locations

939 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97214

Happy Hour Wednesday & Thursday: All Day
Friday – Sunday: 4pm-6pm
$2 off 16 oz Pints
$1 off 8 oz Barrel Aged Ales

One of North America’s pioneers of sour beers is still going strong at its Southeast Portland location despite numerous company changes over the last several years. We should be grateful for this because, despite what the haters might say, Cascade makes exceptional sour beer that is best enjoyed in their cozy and convenient taproom. Besides their sour offerings, which includes their soul-warming holiday concoction Glueh Vine, they also brew up totally legit beers like IPAs, pale ales, stouts, and more. If you’re overdue for a visit to Cascade, their happy hour is a perfect reason to stop in with discounted brews and plenty of good cheer.

920 SE Caruthers St Suite A, Portland, OR 97214

Mon. $4 Industry Pints (OLCC card)
Tues. Kolsch Day, $3 for Stange glass
Fri. $9 or $10 Liter Steins

It’s still somewhat of a mystery why one of the best lager breweries in the world decided to open a Portland taproom, but the Bellingham, WA-based brewery is currently celebrating its second year here in Rose City. Though their space has a bit of an odd layout, it sits within walking distance to numerous other breweries, restaurants, and beers bars. Plus, you’re here for the lagers and on key days of the week you can get them at a significant price break. On Mondays, the Chuckanut team shows their love for industry peers with super cheap pints, while their mind-blowingly good Kolsch is the start of the show on Tuesday and you can step it up with a nicely priced liter every Friday. While you can’t call them a Portland brewery since they don’t brew here, Chuckanut has earned their place in town and their regular specials only sweeten the deal.

2715 SE 8th Ave #175, Portland, OR 97202

$1 off beers for the half hour directly before and after Sunset each day. (Currently 4-5pm)

One of Bend’s most popular breweries recently opened a Portland outpost in the former Vagabond Brewing space and now they want to pull us in with a power hour timed around the setting of the sun. This is your chance to try their diverse range of brews that include IPAs, lagers, sours, and barrel-aged offerings. The new pub also boasts a very solid food menu, so settle in for a bite to eat after a pint or two of low-priced suds.

210 NW 11th Ave, Portland, OR 97209

HH Mon-Thurs 2-4pm (excluding holidays).
HH Food Menu
Select beer, wine and cocktails also available at a HH discount.

You might be the kind of beer snob who sees Deschutes as part of the dinosaur generation of craft beer, but the recent wave of closures should tell us that we need to cherish our pioneers. Plus, Deschutes has always made killer beer and has racked up numerous awards for the smaller batch beer they crank out of their downtown Portland brewpub. Alongside discounted drinks, you can enjoy a small menu of bites like burgers, pickles, brownies and more ranging from $2-10. If ever there was a reason to venture downtown and support one of Oregon’s OG breweries, this is it.

2511 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97214

Wed - Fri 3-5PM
$5 full pours with a complementary sidecar snack.

The McMinnville-based brewery has quietly carved out its place as one of the Northwest’s finest producers of West Coast IPAs, crisp lagers, and classic cask beer. All of these can be had right here in Portland at their homey Beer Study, which transforms an old house on Belmont Street into a setting that feels like the kind of cozy beer bar where your college professor might hang out. Now, for the three days a week you can enjoy pints at a very respectable discount and the fine folks at Foreland will even throw in a free snack! If there’s one thing to know in this crazy world, it’s that you never turn down a free snack. For the parents and dog people out there, they also welcome minors every day until 9PM and dogs can hang on both front and back patios.

1015 SE Stark St, Portland, OR 97214

9-11pm, Thurs-Sat.
$2 off all Fracture beers, and $25 bottles of sparkling wine in Câche Câche.

Câche Câche (inside Fracture) Menu:

Oysters: $2 each
Poached shrimp: $13
French Onion Soup Dip: $13
Poached Albacore Slider: $11
Lobster Slider: $12

Late night?! Seafood?! What is even happening? Fracture is flipping the happy hour script with the kind of offerings that used to make Portland such a culinary destination. Tucked behind the Fracture taproom, Câche Câche has quietly carved out its spot as the premier place to pair seafood with craft beer (or bubbles if you’re into that sort of thing), and you can find both at a discount on select evenings. Besides discounts on draft, you can feast on oysters, shrimp, lobster, and more for the kind of late-night indulgence that is vastly superior to the drive-thru burger you’ll definitely regret in the morning.

When it comes to food, beer, and location, the latest outpost from Portland mainstays Gigantic Brewing is an all-around ass-kicker. I will say up front that the food and beer is well worth stopping in for and paying full price, but now you can grab items like tots, cracklins, nachos, a “happy” smashburger and more for super cheap. Gigantic isn’t offering deals on pints at this point, but the food menu is more than a good reason to stop into the bright blue building on Hawthorne and throw down on some killer eats.

4343 SE Hawthorne Blvd, Portland, OR 97215

Happy Hour Food Menu 3-5pm, All Day on Monday

Grand Fir Brewing

1403 SE Stark St, Portland, OR 97214

Every day 2-5pm burger and pint $11.
Wednesday $10 for a burger and any beer and $6 for pints.

Remember when Portland was cheap and you could legitimately score a burger and a beer for $10 all around town…and it usually came with fries?! Those days are mostly gone but lucky for us, the team at Grand Fir remembers this moment. Every day, happy hour gives you the chance to try one of Doug Adams’ famously delicious burgers along with some of the best beer in town courtesy of Whitney Burnside, and it gets even better on hump day. Adams keeps his burg simple with caramelized onion mustard sauce, American cheese, pickles, and iceberg lettuce, making for something that will blow your In-n-Out experience out of the water. The whole menu at Grand Fir is well worth a try, but this is a nice introduction that won’t break the bank. At that price, you can even spring for a side of fries or a second pint.

Haven’t heard of Integrity? That may be because their social media presence and website leaves much to be desired, but these one-time nano brewers have been brewing commercially since 2017 and they recently opened a taproom in the former Hop Capital Space. Happy hour may be the perfect opportunity to try their takes on classic styles like a copper ale, hefeweizen and Scotch ale alongside more offbeat creations like a Peppermint Cocoa Porter, Smoked plum ale and a Raspberry Double IPA.

6500 S Virginia Ave, Portland, OR 97239

4-6pm Tues - Sat, all day Sunday
$2 off house draft beer and wine

210 NW 21st Ave, Portland, OR 97209

4-5 PM, Monday to Friday.
HH food & drinks menu

Amidst our current wave of brewery closures that have included many spots once considered pioneers and institutions, Kells has mostly stood strong with its traditional-Irish-leaning beers. This niche has clearly served it well, as you’d be hard-pressed to find a better joint to score an Irish Red or a dry stout. But if you’re looking to spice things up with a cocktail or two or just grab some cheap eats to go with your beer, the daily power hour at Kells features a decently impressive menu of drinks under ten bucks alongside a menu that includes fish tacos, hot wings, sausage rolls, and more.

61 SE Yamhill St, Portland, OR 97214

Tue to Fri from 3p to 6pm.
$1 off pints and $10 taster trays

Residing in the old inner eastside space of the legendary Hair of the Dog, the onetime nano operation Labyrinth Forge serves up an array of creative brews like a spruce tip saison, black maize imperial pumpkin stout, and both traditional and boundary-pushing IPAs. One might even say that, as the new home of the Green Dragon brewing club, this spot low-key boasts one of the most unexpectedly exciting taplists in town. If you’re looking to work your way through this taplist, their taster tray special is the way to go.

5812 E Burnside St, Portland, OR 97215

Happy Hour pricing of $5.50 a pint every weekday from open to 6pm.

Another underrated gem, Portland’s first (and only?) kosher brewery offers a nice selection of beers at old-school pricing all day every day. Ever had a beer made with challah bread? Well, you can try it at Leikam in the confines of their cozy, welcoming little space on East Burnside. Rumor has it that they even have a brewery cat named Puck, and we all know every taproom is better with cats.

3412 SE Division St, Portland, OR 97202

HH Mon-Fri from 2pm-5pm
$1 off pints & 13.5oz pours
Trivia Mondays: 10% of single cans and bottles to go. 15% off 4-pks to go.
*Special happy hour food menu w/ reduced prices

Top-notch sours, IPAs, lagers and more can all be had for $1 off full pours at Little Beast’s Division Street location. The former Lampoc spot that sits in a lovely little house and includes an expansive front yard beer garden is conveniently located in the heart of Division, and now there is even more of a reason to pop in for a pint or two to complement Lawless BBQ’s stellar smoked meats. They also offer a solid price-break on to-go offerings so that you can take a little bit of that Beast home with you.

628 SE Belmont St, Portland, OR 97214

$2 off beers on Tuesdays if you ride in on 2-wheels (bicycles, motorcycles, etc.)

LL Hawthorne - Mizer Monday (all day), $1 off of 20 ounce Imperial pints (Reg. $7.50) and $2 off of Pitchers.

LL Multnomah Village - Tightwad Tuesday (all day), $1 off of 20 ounce Imperial pints (Reg. $7.50) and $2 off of Pitchers.

LL Quimby - Tightwad Tuesday (all day), $1 off of 20 ounce Imperial pints (Reg. $7.50) and $2 off of Pitchers.

The motorcycle culture at Living Häus Beer Company may be due to co-owners Conrad Andrus and Mat Sandoval, who are often found riding their hogs when they aren’t brewing up an increasingly acclaimed array of lagers and IPAs. Though they don’t advertise it heavily, the Living Häus rewards fellow two-wheel enthusiasts every Tuesday (is Two-wheel Tuesday a thing?) with discounted beers when you ride in. Just make sure you can still ride out after knocking back those slightly-more-affordable brews!

Amidst our current wave of brewery closures, one of Portland’s OG operators is hanging in there with beers that often feel wonderfully outdated yet harken back to simpler times for craft beer. These are beers that aren’t afraid to put C hops and caramel malt front and center, and where rye IPAs and golden ales still get a much-deserved place on the taplist. You can also score food that is so cheap, it also feels like you are going back in time to Portland’s more affordable era. And if all of that is not enough to get you excited, each of Lucky Lab’s three locations offers happy hour deals that include nice markdowns on big boy pints as well as pitchers. Think of this as your calling to get in touch with a pint (or pitcher-size) dose of classic Portland.

At their various locations around town, Migration offers a few different specials to pull you through the week. While these don’t fall under the traditional “happy hour” umbrella, they are worthy of inclusion as they are definitely a steal. Monday and Tuesday offer respectable discounts on pints, while Wednesday gets ramped up with a whiskey special that is hard to resist. There are also excellent deals on food and beer during Trailblazers games, so this might be the spot to post up. Take note that each Migration location offers a slightly different special depending on the day.

5201 NE Martin Luther King Jr Blvd, Portland, OR 97211

Sunday - Thursday 4-5:30pm
$1 off beers and well drinks

These days Old Town keeps a slightly lower profile as far as Portland breweries go, but their creative beers should not be overlooked. Alongside straightforward lagers and ales, you can indulge in beers like an English golden ale with prickly pear, cardamom, and coriander, a sparkling ale, and a spiced dunkel lager. All of this comes with a hefty dose of the kind of Portland pride that we desperately need. Happy hour is basic but serves as a nice opportunity to sample the goods and even have a cheap cocktail or five.

928 SE 9th Ave, Portland, OR 97214

Daily (including weekends) 4-6pm
$1 off Drinks and $2 off select appetizers,

Every Portland local has found themselves bringing that one out-of-town visitor to the Rogue pub because they have to experience this classic American craft beer from the source. Well, Rogue is actually brewed in Newport but their Eastside pub is a great way to experience what they have to offer by trying classics like Dead Guy Ale and Hazelnut Brown Nectar alongside more experimental small batches. They also have tasty food and a killer patio (in the summer at least), making them a worthy stop on your brewery tour or pub crawl. These days, you can find deals on beer, food, and cocktails every weekday, giving you all the more reason to make this a stop on your welcome-to-Portland tour.

Currently housed in the former LaBrewatory space, Second Profession serves up a taplist of eclectic beers like their Electric Fun Machine Pomegranate Sour IPA, a guava gose and a hef brewed with citra alongside more traditional styles. This kind of creativity and versatility is worth seeking out, and you can do that for uber cheap every single day during their happy hour. They also share a building with Tamale Boy, so you can grab some tasty Mexican food to complement those affordable brews.

Step inside the expansive and spiritual space that is the original SteepleJack and you will find yourself in praise of their eclectic taplist and some truly excellent food. This brewery knocks pretty much any style of beer out of the park, but its their lower ABV offerings like lagers and English ales that really shine. Of course, these can be all yours for just five clams every single day at their original locations along with a nice beer and shot special and a couple of decent food options to fill your belly during those afternoon drinking sessions.

403 SE 79th Ave, Portland, OR 97215

Daily Monday-Saturday 3-6
$2 off all Draft Beer, Wine and Cocktails

We all know packaged beer isn’t cheap these days - at least if you want to good stuff - so Monday is the perfect opportunity to stock up with offerings from Threshold. From their little Montavilla brewhouse, the team at Threshold cranks out excellent hazies, West Coast IPAs, Polish lagers, sours and more, giving you plenty of variety to sample when you’re filling your fridge.

7151 NE Prescott St, Portland, OR 97218

Happy Hour 7-days a week 3-6pm. Order a sandwich from on-site food truck Chaat Wallah and get $2 off of your sandwich and $1 off your beer.

One of Portland’s best breweries recently opened a quaint little spot on the corner of NE Prescott and 72nd in an old service station, and lately they have been upping the ante with a daily happy hour that gives you the chance to try both their unique array of beers alongside Chaat Wallah’s fun take on Indian street food. Upright has always been a spot well-suited to day drinking, and now they have sweetened the deal by giving you the chance to pair culinary-inspired saisons and cask ales with sandwiches like Masala Pulled Pork and Lamb Khadi Samshburger.

Happy Hour Everyday from 3PM - 6PM
$1 off house beer
Cheese Pizza (V) - $10
Pepperoni Pizza - $10

Von Ebert’s weekly discounted cans may have gotten me through covid…or at the very least it gave me a reason to occasionally leave the hour for a killer deal and amazing beer. Now, the brewery is keeping their Can Mondays going while tacking on a nice power hour that includes ridonkulously cheap brews and food for ten bucks. My advice is to go there and see how many award-winning lagers and IPAs you can plow through in an hour.

304 SE 2nd Ave, Portland, OR 97214

Mon-Thurs 3PM - 5PM (Excludes Holidays)
$2 off Full Sized House Beers

Happy Hour Food Menu on the website

Since opening their doors in 2016, Wayfinder has served what can best be described as elevated pub food alongside some of the finest lagers and IPAs in the country. This writer might even say they have some of the finest brewpub food in Portland with items like the prime rib cheesesteak, schnitzel sammy, smoked wings and more bringing quality and comfort to knock it out of the park and make for a truly world-class brewery experience. Keeping the bar so high has also meant that Wayfinder is one of the spendier brewery spots in town, but now they are opening the floodgates of deliciousness with an expansive menu of happy hour offerings. That includes an array of fries, burger deals, mac & cheese and other party foods. Complementing all of these tasty bites are killer deals on beer, wine, and cocktails (they have it all!), making it a perfect spot to bring your non-beer-loving friends and lovers.

5716 SE 92nd Ave, Portland, OR 97266

$7 steins all day on Monday
If seated in the community area beer hall group tables the steins are $7 every day.

Zoiglhaus Brewing Company is one of Portland’s most underrated breweries, quietly pouring up delicious, mostly German-style brews out of their Lents neighborhood location now known as The Zed. Here, you can indulge in the cozy surroundings with beer, an array of food offerings like Venezuelan fare, burgers, Thai and even Nepalese cuisine, as well as games and cocktails. If you suffer from a case of the Mondays, you should also jet over to The Zed to grab a stein for the price of a pint. That roughly equals two pints for the price of one, which is a steal any way you slice it.
