Growler's Taproom on SE Hawthorne is Closing

Growler's Taproom on 34th and Hawthorne Boulevard in Southeast Portland is closing at the end of the month. The former dollar store retail spot was turned into Growler's Hawthorne in 2014 during the growler fill station craze. Growler's Taproom was in the news last summer when a patron wearing a MAGA hat incited an altercation.

Under new ownership, Growler's Hawthorne became Growler's Taproom in 2017, the new owners Binh Pham and Joe Rodgers opened a second location called Growler's Taproom on 82nd in 2018. That location is still open next to Henry's Market at 803 SE 82nd Ave, Portland, OR 97216.

Growler's Taproom on Hawthorne went through many changes. For a while, it served as a taproom for neighboring nano contract brewery Brewed by Gnomes. The beer bar was also in the news last October when they were forced to stop hosting shows in their basement music venue.

Difficulty with their landlords has lead to the closure of Growler's Taproom according to their own social media.

"After a long, drawn out battle with the landlords of our building, they have decided that they will no longer allow any alcohol or food service on the premises,"

The two food trucks on Growler's Taproom's lot - Tight Tacos and KT's Sandwiches - will also be forced to relocate at the end of the month.
