Oregon Brew Crew 40th Anniversary Gala celebrates Homebrewers Past & Present

The oldest homebrewing club in the country is welcoming everyone to join them for the Oregon Brew Crew 40th Anniversary Gala. Homebrewer, member of the club or just homebrewing curious, are all welcome to take part in the 21+ party at the Laurelhurst Club in Portland on Saturday, March 14th 2020.

The gala event takes place from 6-9pm and includes a catered 4 course meal from Elephant's Deli and special beers from local brewers for only $35 to the public, $25 for OBC members. The party will feature talks and presentations from past and present brew crew members and new collaboration beers by homebrewers. You can also join the crew for an afterparty starting at 9pm the same night at Belmont Station.

"There are hundreds of previous members who have lapsed for one reason or another, and others who have helped out the club along the way. We want to celebrate the rich history and give thanks to all those who kept things going," says OBC president Jim Thompson.

That includes putting together a retrospective with memories, photos and words from early members during the 80's and 90's. The OBC board will be honoring legendary members like Fred Eckhart and others the club has lost over the years. Significant Oregon beers and their contributions to the conversation will also be highlighted, like Widmer's creation of the American Wheat Ale and Breakside and The Commons advancement of kettle souring.

Breakside Brewery, Hair of the Dog, Level Beer and the Green Dragon Brew Crew have stepped up to brew special beers for the party.

Breakside is brewing a beer inspired by Bridgeport Brewing's Blue Heron Pale Ale that will be called Portland Pale Ale. Hair of the Dog Brewing is making a special blend of Adam from various barrels. Abram Goldman-Armstrong of Cider Riot is bringing back his classic CDA recipe from 20 years ago on the Green Dragon Brew Crew system. And, Ninkasi's Jamie Floyd is collaborating with Level Beer on a throwback Double Altbier. Ecliptic Brewing, Montavilla Brew Works and Zoiglhaus Brewery will also contribute kegs to the party.
